Books

I’m a writer, inspired by life and my children mostly. I often begin things in my head, poems, sentences, even book ideas.

Eventually, I decided I’d write and publish, so starting small with the intention to grow; I self published 2 children’s books, inspired by conversations, struggles and experiences with my older 2 children.

There’s a Lion in My Mind was written one night after Theo spoke about the fears he had of sleep, because the lion in his mind was waiting.

It began as a poem just to process what he’d told me, but I decided I wanted to turn it into something he could hold, in the hopes of helping him see that lions can be tamed or sent away, and that he’d always have support from his grown ups.

There are some interactive prompts and colouring in the book too, because I thought my own kids would enjoy it, so others might.

Please Don’t Brush Us Away, came about after lots of teeth time struggles; and is a fun, quirky kind of story, about little plaque monsters who don’t want to be brushed away.

I designed the first part of it with my eldest boy, who helped choose the monsters and move them around the words; making it a little project we built together.

It also has some interactive prompts, and colouring pages inside, because getting kids involved makes a difference.

I have various poems written out, exploring topics within mothering, childhood, being a women and self healing; all of which, will be turned into a book soon; because though some writing is personal, I know my deepest moments of solidarity and connection with other humans, have been in moments where souls were bare.

My poetry book will be available at some point in the future.
